About Council

The public organization “Media Council of the Republic of Tajikistan” (hereinafter referred to as the “Media Council”) was founded in November 2009 at the founders’ conference and registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan in January 2010 under No. 1254.

The Media Council is a nationwide public non-commercial, voluntary, independent, consultative, and self-regulating organization of mass media, carrying out its activities in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan, the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan, international legal acts, its Charter, and the ethical norms of journalistic activity.

Goals and Objectives of the Media Council

The Media Council was established with the aim of self-regulating the activities of media in Tajikistan, reviewing and summarizing complaints related to the adherence to ethical standards in journalistic practices. The main goal of the Media Council is the development of freedom of speech, the improvement of journalism quality, and the strengthening of international journalism standards in Tajikistan.

General Assembly of the Media Council Members

The General Assembly (or Conference) of Media Council members meets as necessary, but no less than once a year. To hold the meeting, at least 2/3 of the members must be present. Decisions at the General Assembly are made by a majority vote.

Management of the Media Council

The Management of the Media Council is the governing body of the organization, headed by the Chairman. The members of the Management perform their duties without compensation. The Chairman of the Media Council is elected from the members for a one-year term, and the same person cannot hold the position for more than two consecutive terms.

Executive Apparatus of the Media Council

The Executive Apparatus is the working body responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Media Council, handling organizational and administrative matters.
